In
this play Shakespeare actually tries to show the difference between the apparent and the reality. In the first scene we find the actual face of
Rodrigo and Iago. They sees Othello nothing but a black moor. They feel
that it is unreasonable and disgraceful for them to give respect to a
black moor, and it is also unfair to have a fair wife like Desdemona
of that black moor. The reason lies behind this hatred is the racial
malignity. The second scene of this drama starts with a dramatic
irony.Iago says that although in his profession he has killed many men,
his conscience does not allow him to do any "contrived murder" and only
for that reason he is not killing Roderigo. This shows how people can
hide their actual intention under the clad of appearance. But Othello's
reaction is very important. His speech does not show any kind of
agitation but stability and calmness. The reason behind that Othello does
not love Roderigo,so he can't hart Othello. But later we will see that
in the case of Desdemona Iago can easily instigate Othello. The reason
behind that is Othello loved Desdemona. It represents another theme of
the play that the question of trust in love.I think when Othello married
Desdemona Othello's main concern was to marry a white lady from a
reputed family. This kind of mentality aroused in him the fear of loosing
Desdemona.SO apparently Othello loved Desdemona but in reality he loved
his fame. And when the situation like this arises
it is obvious that there should be lack of trust.Iago has simply brought out what were hidden in the mind of Othello.
