My analysis of "THE OUTSIDER"by Albert Camus.
I think this is a must reading book to understand ourselves,to understand how often we pretend what we are not and how often we forget to see what we have got.Meursault is an outsider of the society because and only because he is not a liar and I agree with Camus that telling lie is not just only telling what is not true but it is also telling more than what is true.Meursault's mother died and its a natural process. But society is more concerned with expression rather than inner feeling. It was very easy for him to pretend he is very sad but he did not do that.Later, when the magistrate said that all the criminals actually repent for their sin towards God when they come to the court, the protagonist rightly said that it is only because they were criminals though the magistrate didn't like his answer. So called civilized pretentious society is actually a paradise for the liars but it is a hale for the truthful. There are some basic religious questions also aroused in this novel. The priest, the magistrate are telling him"Antichrist" only because he has denied to pretend that he believes those things which he doesn't understand.what I personality in him that he believes those things which he can understand. But society needs those people who can pretend that they believe those things which they can't even understand like the chaplain. There is also another practical question arrives that why all the people born in a particular community should be considered as an asset of that particular community till their death. The point becomes more clear when the chaplain says to the protagonist "sometimes you think you're sure when really you're not" when he said about God.As if it was the chaplain's responsibility to prove him a christian anyway or other.I have discussed just one part of my analysis but there is another and I think more important.I think every man is an outsider to everyman and this thing is shown in this novel.you can't interfere anybody's life.Everyone is different from another. For example the mother of the protagonist is above all an individual and she has full right to enjoy her life even at the end because every life in anytime someway blessed or enjoyable.Everyone has to die and Everyone has full demand over his life.It actually valueless to cry for someone after his death. And there is also no meaning of feeling the life of a condemned man not enjoyable because in a way everyone is condemned.I think the novel says nothing but"be what you are!!!"
